Follow the steps to configure the network connection on the printer’s touchscreen so that the printer will be accessible on your network.<\/p>\n

If you want to use the printer with a USB cable, you can skip this article.<\/p>\n

Preparation: consult with your network administrator<\/h4>\n

Consult your network administrator whether the printer should automatically receive an IP address from the network’s DHCP server or whether it needs to manually receive a static IP address (outside the DHCP range).<\/p>\n

We recommend that when you choose DHCP IP (automatic) address, you first have your network administrator create an IP address reservation based on the printer’s MAC address. This prevents the printer from being assigned a different IP address unintentionally if it is ever turned off for an extended period (in which case the previously obtained IP address will no longer be reserved for this printer because it has been disconnected for too long). <\/p>\n

Together with your network administrator, choose the best network port on the wall or switch to connect the printer to.<\/p>\n

Connect cables and turn on the printer<\/h4>\n

Insert the power cable into the power supply port.<\/p>\n

Insert the Ethernet network cable into the network port. Insert the other end of the Ethernet network cable into the correct network port on the wall or switch. <\/p>\n

Turn on the printer using the switch on the back next to the power cable port.<\/p>\n

Insert the ribbon cartridge and roll of tape into the printer.<\/h4>\n

First, insert an ink ribbon cartridge into the printer.<\/p>\n

Then place a roll of tape in the printer.<\/p>\n

View current network settings (including MAC address)<\/h4>\n

\"\"The SMS-R1 logo is located at the bottom of the printer’s touchscreen display.<\/p>\n

Press the SMS-R1 logo for 3-4 seconds<\/strong> to open the system information and network settings screen.<\/p>\n

On this screen, you see an overview of settings such as the current IP address, gateway, MAC address, and firmware version.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

If DHCP ready<\/strong> appears after the IP address, the printer is currently on DHCP IP<\/strong>.
\nIf FIXED IP ready<\/strong> appears after the IP address, the printer is currently on FIXED IP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Option A: Set DHCP IP address<\/h4>\n

\"\"Press the DHCP IP<\/strong> button to restart your SMS-R1 once, in order to request an automatic IP address from the DHCP server. You can then find this IP address by going to the system information screen<\/strong> again after the printer has restarted. <\/p>\n

Option B: Set fixed IP address<\/h4>\n

1<\/strong>. Ensure that you select a static IP address that lies outside your network’s DHCP range.
\nTherefore, do not use the same IP address that was (possibly) previously assigned to the printer by the DHCP server. Contact your network administrator if you are unsure.
\nEnsure that no other device on the network has this same IP address. <\/p>\n

2<\/strong>. Press each input field and press the blue buttons with the numbers each time to enter the selected numbers.<\/p>\n

3<\/strong>. When you are satisfied with the entered values: press the button with the green check mark. The settings will be applied and the printer will restart. <\/p>\n

If you want to stop the changes: press the button with the red cross.<\/p>\n
